Another decline in residential property construction permits in Germany

The German Bureau of Statistics (Destatis) measured another decline compared to last year

New data was released this month at the Federal Bureau of Statistics, showing that the amount of building permits issued fell 1.9% between January and September in Germany, compared with the data from the same period last year. This is a total of 257,900 approvals. And they were valid for both new construction. Moreover, it is also for construction work related to existing buildings.

The Federal Bureau of Statistics has already recorded a 2.5% and 3.4% decline. This decline is in building permits for October and September. In contrast, the number of buildings with approval are only “in high volume” since 2016.

Between January and September, the number of building permits for single family homes increased by 0.5%. On the other hand, the amount of permits for building two-family homes fell by 1.5%.

According to Andreas Ibel, president of the German Association of Real Estate and Free Housing (BFW), they are particularly concerned about the fall in multi-apartment building permits.

During the current legislative period, the German government coalition of Angela Merkel’s CDU / CSU and the left-center SPD agreed to a target of 1.5 million new apartments by 2021.
